Convening Progressive
Celebration, Imagination, Activation
In 2021, NEWHAB presents a hybrid virtual and in-person convening as our country begins to become vaccinated against COVID-19, and it becomes safe to meet face to face once again. This year’s Convening Progressive will be held in three parts throughout the summer and early fall.
PART ONE: A 3-day virtual convening June 8-10 focused on Celebration, Imagination, and Activation.
PART TWO: A summer day in July for two hours where we will hear member stories and strategies for addressing the complex problems we are facing.
PART THREE: Early September, we’ll gather in 4 different cities simultaneously to reconnect and strategize on our collective work.
PART ONE
As a community we are going to build our collective capacity to imagine new forms of leadership and methods for problem solving that actively dismantle systems of oppression.
SCHEDULE
June 8 Celebration: This informal one-hour meetup will be part happy hour and part member celebration.
June 9 Imagination: Participatory workshops and an interactive performance will open our collective imagination to seeing more possibilities.
June 10 Activation: Building on the recent NEWHAB strategic inquiry, members will collectively design strategies and activities.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
Workshops will be offered concurrently as shown in the schedule in the next session. Timing of each session is listed at the end of the description.
“Reclaim Your Sunshine” This is a guided nature walk by Strela Cervas examining systems of leadership in nature and how those translate in our day to day work. (Available on Day 2 in both Workshop sessions.)
“Cultural Resource Mapping” This participatory workshop is led by Quetzal Flores that offers a framework for identifying the resources available for creating transformational work in community. (Available on Day 2 in second Workshop session ONLY.)
“Em-body leadership” How we lead is informed by where we lead from. Two Brown Girls will guide participants on a journey of self-reflection and assessment to identify where leadership lives in your body. (Available on Day 2 in both Workshop sessions.)
“The Most Beautiful Home…Maybe” This immersive and interactive performance guides audiences through cabaret time travel, pop culture, and policy to collectively vision a world where housing is a guarantee. (Available on Day 2 in both Workshop sessions.)
BIPOC Affinity Space This space is for members who identify as BIPOC. It is an opportunity to connect, reflect, and to build community with other members of color. One of the goals of these affinity spaces will be to create a framework for ongoing affinity space or employee resource groups for racial affinity and for other communities whose identities are marginalized in society. (Available on Day 2 as the lunch meet up topic.)
